Desert Lament
- Anonymous Soldier
- June 15, 1942
The sun is fierce, the wind is dry, The sand gets in your mouth and eye. You dream of rain and shady trees And long for boots instead of these.
The trucks grind on from dawn till night, The stars are cold, the moon is bright. But still we smile, and still we fight — For freedom’s cause, and what is right.
