David Lowther WWII Author
This website is under new management. Vanilla Websites have rebuilt davidlowtherauthor.co.uk. I hope you like it as much as I do. Amongst several new features you will find a BOOKSHOP where you an buy direct from me the paperback of my most recent novel ORDINARY HEROES at below RRP. On the bookshop page there are details of my other books which are available from Sacristy Press and Amazon and short stories from the Surrey Hills Writers (including some of mine!) as well as novels written by SHW. Available from Amazon. The Surrey Hills Writers will be at the St John's Spring Fair in Farncombe, Surrey on Saturday May 16th, 11-4. My book ORDINARY HEROES will be on sale along with other novels by the Surrey Hills Writers and their five collections of short stories. I shan't be there on that day but will be in Godalming two weeks later for their Annual Town Show on the Burys Field in the heart of the town. All of our books will be on sale at our gazebo and many of the Surrey Hills Writers will be there to chat, including me. And don’t forget, you can buy a free copy of the Ebook of Ordinary Heroes. Buying that qualifies you to be included on my Mailing List. The next is due in about six weeks where you can read about my plans for a follow-up to Ordinary Heroes.
Explore the Stories Behind the History
Welcome to my website. I am a writer who specialises in the
Second World War. Each of my four novels focusses on a
different aspect of the conflict; Appeasement (The Blue Pencil), Crime in the Blitz (Two Families at War), pre-war espionage (The Summer of ’39) and young people growing up during the Second World War (Ordinary Heroes). All of the stories are based around real events and how
the fictional characters inter acted with these. A number of
real life people appear in each of the novels.
Additionally, I have had published one non-fictional title Liberating Belsen: Remembering the soldiers of the Durham Light Infantry. You
can read about all of these in the Books Section on the website.
Elsewhere on the website you can find my
blog with a monthly post about some of the major events of
WWII. The current post is NEVILLE CHAMBERLAIN DID THE WRONG THING.

I believe historical fiction should not only entertain, but also educate — drawing attention to the courage, conflict, and consequences of war. Whether you're a history enthusiast or an aspiring writer, there's something here for you.
